Leveling a pet
If I go as a smiter and have a 600 partner into the FoW or UW, will the pet still get experience even though I am not? Or should I go as the 600 so it can?

Im not really with it when it comes to pets, but wont the pet spend its entire time assuming room tempeture? Like really dead? Now i wish there was a way to make pets heel. that would be truley kick arse.
How are you gonna slide pet skills on the bar as a smiter or 600. none of this is said in jest or being a smart arse. Cronk |

If you don't care about evolution, a dead pet gains experience regardless of its location. Pets don't gain experience from the quest rewards of course. Just from foes killed. So if you gain experience from foes, so will your pet. You'd probably need to play the 600 to stay in range for experience gain.

Pretty sure just like you, your pet must be a 'threat' to gain XP.

Unless the 600 is THAT bad, BiP or BR aren't really required or needed, so blessed signet is also not needed. The question was: "If I'm not getting experience, will he?", which you didn't really address. @MisterB - Thanks. @Majik - I was doing this, but I hate it. 2 runs per level and he was only 8, imagine when he was level 15+. @Xsiris - A pet gets experience even if it's off the compass from you, but that could only be the experience that I get. |

You can easily get a pet to level 20 in like 30 min by death leveling in Menagerie.

It gains exp out of range, use smite. I wouldnt do this with a random 600 person, it would be annoying to explain

Pets do not gain XP unless the owner is in range to get XP. The pet can be dead and out of range, but the owner has to be in aggro range. (Note, the owner doesn't actually have to *get* XP, he just has to be eligible to get it. For example, if you go out with a level 5 pet and kill a bunch of level 3 foes, you don't get XP from those kills, but the pet does, since you are in killing range.)
I just tested this. I took Koss and we both charmed a couple of level 5 warthogs, then went to Boreal in HM. First, I pinned Koss out of range of the wurms and killed 10. I received 396 XP per kill and my pet leveled after only four kills, as if the run were solo. Koss's pet still had not leveled after 10 kills, though a level 5 pet in a party of two normally levels after eight kills. On the next run, I let the first wurm kill Koss's pet. Koss and I then started killing wurms out of aggro range of the corpse. The pet leveled after eight kills, the same as it would have if alive and in range. So, you're going to have to be the 600 for your pet to get XP, but it doesn't matter whether it is alive or dead. Last edited by BrettM; Aug 22, 2009 at 12:57 AM // 00:57.. |

Yup...then turn it in to the pet tamer, and unlock whatever evolution you want 5 sup runes 2 mesmer heroes (fast casting 13+, equip only with FoMF) vamp weapon (-50 cesta optional) lvl 5 pet of choice to turn in to the tamer (unless you already have that pet unlocked) Set heroes to avoid, aggro the pet with vamp weapon, then go eat lunch. You do this with the level 5 roaming ones because they won't attack, leaving your heroes free to spam res you even at 1 HP. |

How long does it take you to eat lunch? This process takes about 20 min, IIRC. Search the forum for the guide that someone made for death leveling pets in the menagerie. |
